Equity Benchmark indices fell for the second consecutive session Tuesday as cautious investors booked profits ahead of Union Budget due tomorrow and December core sector data due later today. Shorts build up in technology stocks after H1-B visa bill woes also caused selling pressure, driving the Nifty below 8600.
The BSE Sensex closed down 193.60 points or 0.70 percent at 27655.96 and the Nifty slipped 71.45 points or 0.83 percent to 8561.30.
The Union Budget 2017 will be a tightrope for Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to boost public spending and also keep deficit within limits, Ravi S Muthukrishnan of ICICI Securities says.
All BSE sector are closed with negative. The BSE Small Cap lost 134 points to 12935 while BSE Mid-Cap dropped 143 points to 12857.
