After a volatile session, share market ended flat on Monday. The domestic market traded on a flat note during the mid-afternoon session as investors’ sentiments were buoyed on the back of positive Asian markets, coupled with short covering and value-buying. Banks underperformed after the CRR hike announcement by RBI, while ITC helped the market close in the green.
The Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex ended with a gain of 34 points at 26,350. The NSE Nifty closed 13 points higher at 8,127 points. About 1665 shares have advanced, 927 shares have declined and 174 shares are unchanged. Indian Rupee closed lower by 0.30 paise at 68.76 per dollar.
The India VIX (Volatility) index was up 2.51% at 18.0550. The BSE Mid-cap gained 118 points at 12301, Small-cap hiked 79 points to 12106 and Bank Nifty lost 205 points at 18301. In commodity market, Gold hiked 192 points at Rs 28,790 per 10 gm and silver gained 502 points at Rs 41,000 per kg.
Asian stocks closed on a mixed note. The Shanghai Composite index and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index closed higher by 0.5% and Japan’s Nikkei index slipped 0.13%. In Europe, the FTSE 100 and DAX were trading in red. CAC 40 is trading lower by 1%.
Among the 50-stocks of Nifty, Bharti Airtel, Zee Entertain, Tata Power, Bosch, Idea Cellular on the NSE Top gainers whereas Bank of Baroda, SBI, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, Yes Bank closed with losses.
